What is scale ratio ?

Scale ratio is defined as the ratio of the length of any object on a model to the actual length of the same object in the real world, this can be further explained as the length of an object as a ratio on a model compared to the actual length of that object as a ratio in the real world.

The scale ratio of an object can be found by dividing each dimension of the required scale factor. eg. If you would like to apply the scale factor of 1:6 and the length of that item is 60cm, you would have to divide 60 by 6 which is equal to 10 which would be the new dimension.



An example is placed below as proof of scale ratio.

Why are scale drawings or models important ?

    Scale drawings/models are useful and important because they can be used to plan, visualize and adjust before having or creating a final product. Scale drawings assign each object the same scale compared to the actual object. Eg. in a scale drawing with a 1:100 scale ratio, a 100-foot-long property would be represented by a 1-foot-long property image in the scale drawing/model.




How are they useful in real world scenarios ?

    Scale drawing and models are useful in real world scenarios, since it is not always possible to draw on paper the actual size of real life objects such as the real size of a house or an airplane.

   Four fields in which scale drawings and models are used in are fields like construction, architecture, engineering and even electronic drafting.


Why are they important in the fields listed above ?

Scale ratio/models are important in the fields listed above in view of the fact that fields like construction, agriculture and engineering the products need to be planned/designed (drawn out on paper or technically drawn) before being manufactured, the same thing is done for electronic drafting though the product is usually more detailed and complicated.

 SCALE RATIO 

What is scale ratio ? 

Scale ratio of a model represents the proportional ratio of a linear dimension of the same original model, to put it simply it's the ratio of the corresponding dimensions off the same feature of the original.

Scale drawings can be used in various Fields but the main importance of it is that it can be used to plan or give a visual representation of a plan before it is executed, take blueprints for example these are used to give a layout of an infrastructure on a smaller scale, very convenient. 

SOME EXAMPLES OF FIELDS THAT USE SCALE DRAWINGS INCLUDES : 

The construction industry : most infrastructures use scale drawing models for their construction, this Is how they are able to get a visual representation of how the infrastructures are to look and built.

Engineering : engineers use scale drawings to draw the exact object on a much smaller scale, this is used by architects and builders to create a specific object or infrastructure.

Architecturing : most if not all architectures use blueprints which is basically a scale drawing, they use this to get a better understanding of the layout of a building or infrastructure and how it is to be built.

Movie making : productionists use props or small-scale models to plan out and design, the purpose of this is to give a visual representation on how the movie or television show made.

DEFINE IT.

A SCALE RATIO is a number by which the size of any geometrical figure or shape can be changed with respect to its original size. When things are too large, we use scale factors to calculate smaller, proportional measurements. It is used to compare two similar geometric figures.

WHY ARE SCALE DRAWINGS OR MODELS IMPORTANT?

Scale drawings allow us to accurately represent sites, spaces, buildings, and details to a smaller or more practical size than the original. A scale model provides a visual perspective that you can't achieve with blueprints and drawings.


HOW ARE THEY USEFUL IN REAL-WORLD SCENARIOS?

They are useful to create maps and other scale diagrams. Ratios are frequently used in our real world to simplify problems by expressing numbers in their correct perspective. We as humans never realize that we use it nearly every day because it allows us to measure and express quantities by making it much easier to understand in real-world scenarios.

WHY ARE THEY IMPORTANT IN THESE FIELDS?

ARCHITECTURE is both the process and the product of planning, designing, and constructing buildings or other structures. Architectural works, in the material form of buildings, are often perceived as cultural symbols and as works of art.

MILITARY COMMAND is an organizational unit for which a military commander is responsible. A commander is normally specifically appointed to the role in order to provide a legal framework for the authority bestowed.

ENGINEERING is the use of scientific principles to design and build machines, structures, and other items, including bridges, tunnels, roads, vehicles, and buildings. The discipline of engineering encompasses a broad range of more specialized fields of engineering.

FILMMAKING is the process by which a motion picture is produced. Filmmaking involves a number of complex and discrete stages, including an initial story, idea, or commission.it then continues through screenwriting, casting, and pre-production.

 What is Scale ratio?

The scale ratio of a model represents the proportional ratio of a linear dimension of the model to the same feature of the original.

Why are scale drawings or models important?

Scale drawings and models are fundamental to creating products that are both useful and pleasing to the eye. See also Computer-Aided Design, Mount Rushmore, Measurement of Photocopier, Ratio, Rate and Proportion Transformations.

How are they useful in real world scenarios?

A scale drawing of a building (or bridge) has the same shape as the real building (or bridge) that it represents but a different size. Builders use scaled drawings to make buildings and bridges. A ratio is used in scale drawings of maps and buildings.

.Architects & Engineers- Having the correct scale will directly determine how walls become rooms and dirt becomes roads. The space outlined on a scale drawing is also reduced by the same ratio as the objects included in the plan. If a drawing isn't to scale, there's no guarantee that each object on the plan will fit into the real space.

. Designer- Scale, and proportion both are integral to establishing what interior designers call the golden ratio. This ratio, 1:618 is a nearly foolproof method for determining which colors, shapes, sizes, and positioning to implement within an interior space. Contrast is important in creating a unique and inspiring space.

. Construction- Drawing accurately to scale, and being able to shift between scales, is a fundamental skill of architectural drawing and spatial design. Scale drawings are used to illustrate items that it is not useful or convenient to draw at their actual size.

. Cartographer- Scale is probably one of the most important elements of cartography and map analysis. It creates some amount of objectivity in the map and provides a reliable means of assessing the size or relative distances of features pictured on a map.
