Mathematics: Scale Ratio
Define It:
The scale ratio of a model exemplifies the proportional ratio of a linear dimension of the model to the same feature of the original. The ratio scale refers to the position of measurement in which the attributes composing variables are measured on specific numerical scores or values that have equal distances between attributes or points along the scale. Examples such as a 3-dimensional scale model of a building or the scale drawings of the elevations or plans of a building. The scale can be stated in four words such as a ratio, lexical scale, a fraction and as bar scale.
Think On It:
A scale drawing is a diagram of an object that is drawn either smaller or larger than the original. The use of similarity in scale drawings and models is elemental to creating products that are both useful and pleasing to the eye. Scale models also allow designers to make changes at a much smaller cost instead of showing the clients the final vision. If a drawing isn't to scale, there's no guarantee that each object will fit into the real area. A scale drawing lets you see exactly how each element will fit and how much space you will have, both empty and full, the designer scales it down. All the measurements in the drawing must correspond to the measurements of the actual object by the same scale
How Scale Drawings Are Used In The Real World:
They are used to create maps and other scale diagrams, when things are too big to draw on paper, scale factors are used to calculate smaller, proportional measurements, Scale drawings are a useful tool for any designer, because they can be used to plan, visualize and adjust landscape plans before breaking grounds or begin any construction. Scale drawings assign each object the same scale compared to the actual objects.
Architecture- When an architect or a designer is building for a client, they must often create to the clients’ exact description. Scale drawings allow each object the same scale compared to the actual objects. When designing a landscape, one of the most important considerations are how it will translate to the real world.
Chemistry-The scale allows the physicists to figure out the particles' level and also the burden of those particles.
Art- As with elements such as unity and balance, artists use scale and proportion to carry their unique observation to the viewer. When an artist or designer chooses to make particular objects oversized or diminutive, it is often to emphasize their importance or encourage a new perspective.
Carpenters- It is important that the scale used is noted on the drawing, because of the ease of reproducing, printing and altering drawings, it is important to note the original sheet size that the scale was drawn at.
