Mathematics- Scale Model Ratio📏

 DEFINE IT

Scale ratio deals with measurements and ascribe variables and is measured on a particular number of sources or values. It always starts on the nil point (Zero) and the number of distances or points along the scale line varies. For example 0 degrees Celsius on the scale line is a value, it doesn’t refer to if it's cold or hot.

THINK ON IT

Scale drawings are important because they help you construct structures or for mapping. For example buildings, roads and for mapping directions. The uses of blueprints are very handy and efficient when it comes to almost anything, without blueprints it would be difficult to construct structures and without a map, you’d be lost.

Scale drawing and models are also commonly used to define if an object is too large or too small to be sketched to their true size.

Scale models are used in many fields when comes to dealing in the real world and particularly most careers such: military, engineering, designing, and architecture. Scale drawings are a useful piece of tool for almost any plan of careers.

Military- Scale drawing in militaries are mainly used for mapping and to create a camp space. Mapping in militaries allows the members to locate certain areas mainly when going camping and hiking and for other activities.

Engineering- Scale drawing is very useful in engineering. If the drawing isn't scale to properly fit, guarantee the object of the plan won't fit onto its real space. Accurate scale drawing allows you to observe exactly on how it’s properly well place to each component either if it’s both filled and empty.

Designer- Helps you to visualize, scheme and further landscape ideas before attempting actions.

Architecture- For architectural projects, it help to find true measurements of an object of model when scale drawing in the world of work.

An example on how scale ratio is used in the real world by using a wooden plank as a showcase

Model of the Wooden Plank- Height - 1 centimetre
                                                Length - 3 centimetre
                                                Width - 5 centimetre

The actual Wooden Plank- Height - 3 meters
                                            Length - 77 meters
                                            Width - 13 meters

Wooden Plank scale ratio working:

Height - 3 divided by 1 = 3 meters

Length - 90 divided by 30 = 3 meters

Width - 10 divided by 5 = 2 meters

In scale ratio, 1 centimetre is read

Height - 1:3

Length - 1:3

Width - 1:2

SCALE RATIO

 WHAT IS SCALE RATIO?

Scale ratio represents the proportional ratio of a linear dimension of  the model to the same feature of the original. This ratio  allows any researcher to compare the intervals or differences.

THINK ON IT!

Scale drawing is a drawing that shows a real object with accurate sizes reduced or enlarged by a specific amount, this drawing is important because it is useful to plan, visualize and adjust landscape plans before breaking ground.Scale drawings is useful in real world scenarios to be used as an illustration of something that is drawn either smaller or larger than the original. For example,a scale drawing of a building would be drawn smaller than the original drawing, but in the same scale. One foot of the original building might be represented as one half-inch on the scale drawing.Scales used in drafting include mechanical engineer's scale, the civil engineer's scale, the architect's scale and the metric scale.Scale drawings show the actual size of an object. If the object is either too small or too large to draw full scale, the designer scales it up or down.Technical drawings are drawn to scale so that the engineer's, architect's and builders can create the objects in the drawing to exact specifications.

Define it!

What is a Scale Ratio?

A scale ratio, also known as a scale factor, refers a ratio between equivalent measurements of an object as well as an accurate depiction of said object. If the object is too large to draw on paper, scale ratios can be used to find a scaled-down, proportionate figure. Scale ratios can also be used on smaller objects to create a scaled-up drawing of it.

Think on it!

Why are scale drawings or models important?

Scale drawings/models are important as they are used as guides by those working within the creative fields (artists, designers, etc.) to create an object into a different size than it was originally. They are also used to provide a precise representation of a larger or smaller object in an accessible and less time-consuming way. For example, engineers can test a design concept by making a model instead of creating a life-sized prototype.

Scale drawings/models are useful in certain areas of work such as construction as it provides a way to communicate an exact plan for a design or look for an object in a visually pleasing manner.

Scale drawings and models are used by the following fields:

Why are they in important in these fields?

  • Architects & engineers- these professions utilize scaled technical drawings in order to communicate to the builder their design as well as the exact specifications & dimensions required.

  • CartographersDifferent varieties of scales such as bar scales, representative fractions (e.g., 1 / 600 000), or verbal wording (e.g., one inch to the mile) are used by cartographers to accurately describe & represent the size of geographic features on a map.

  •  Artists- Particularly painters or sculptors, use scale ratios to sketch temporary guides before starting a large or small scaled project. They also use scale in order to draw attention to their artwork as well as to make it aesthetically pleasing to the viewer.

SCALE RATIO

                                                                 Scale Ratio

Scale ratio is the portrayal of a model that is being scaled down or up with the same features of the original model in that case it is a representation of that object.

A scale drawing helps you to see precisely how  everything will be and what kind of area you may have, each empty and filled. Whether you're addressing area concerns, including or rearranging additives or maybe operating on a couple of designs, scale will usually play a key function withinside the making plans of your project.

Scale drawing are useful in real world scenarios because according to if you want to see something scale down or up your will use a scale drawing eg. if you want to carry the Eiffel Tower to school for a project you can’t carry the real Tower so therefore you will need a scale down Eiffel Tower.

It also allows you to see things easily, so that the scale drawings or models are made in the  context of real existence.as a scale drawing of an instance of something that is drawn both smaller or larger than the authentic. For example, a scale drawing of a construction could be drawn smaller than the authentic drawing, however at the equal scale. One foot of the authentic construction is probably represented as one-half-inch on the dimensions drawing.

How it It will translate in the real world or even if you wanted to add a playground

space for your kids a scale drawing can ensure that there's room for it to fit or

even show you how it will look in that space u desire to place it another benefit of

scale drawing is that you can make as many plans as you want ensuring that you

are mentally satisfied with the house or building that you want to achieve.

Many ask why scale drawings are important in these for (4) fields I have chosen

Construction- In the construction industry, a variety of scales are normally used relying on the character of the drawing.

Baking - Bakers use measurements in place of scale drawing when they are baking different sizes  of stuff e.g a 6 inch cake and a 24 inch cake.

Architecture - Architects use scale drawings because it enables them to recognize the relationship between a  physical design and the reality of its real world size. It is very rare an architectural drawing is not shown, without a blueprint, it would be really hard to construct a building.

Fashion Designing -  Designers use scale drawing because in society everyone is not the same size so therefore that needs to be done to accommodate everyone.

Scale ratio= Dimensions of the model  ÷ by Dimensions of original object

Actual Rapunzel tower = 20 m

Model Rapunzel tower = 4 cm

Therefore every 1 cm in the model tower is equal

to 5 m  in the actual tower

.Scale ratio: 1:5

Scale ratio= Dimensions of the model ÷ By Dimension of the original object

 Short Cup = 8 oz

Grande Cup = 16 oz Therefore every 1 oz in the short cup

is 2 oz in the grande cup

Scale ratio: 1:2

Scale ratio= Dimensions of the model ÷

By Dimension of the original object

Large Dress = 120 cm

Small Dress = 3 cm

Therefore every 1 cm on the small

Dress is 4 cm on the large dress

scale ratio: 1:4

Scale ratio = Dimensions of the model  ÷

by Dimensions of the original object.

Actual Perfume Bottle = 12 cm

Model of Perfume Bottle = 6 cm

Scale ratio: 1:2
